George Clooney got a huge fanbase during his term as Dr. Douglas 'Doug' Ross in hospital drama series ER (not to be confused with his role as Mark 'Ace' Kolmar in E/R ten years earlier.) By the mid 90's, George had been on our TV screens in many different shows, but it was ER that provided the launchpad into major movies, notably in the Robert Rodriguez directed film with screenplay by Tarantino, From Dusk Till Dawn, in 1996. Numerous major films followed, from the obvious romance stuff to Batman in Batman & Robin (not a high point...), more action in The Peacemaker, Out of Sight, Three Kings and Ocean's Eleven (and Twelve). Sly comedy pervades many of his performances, particularly as Devlin in the Spy Kids movies. But for me, I could finally appreciate his acting fully when he worked with Steven Soderbergh again on the 21st Century version of Solaris. Now a major Hollywood star, he gets to choose interesting romance/action/quirky films as he likes and will undoubtedly continue to charm the box office for some time to come.
