Ewan left school to train in acting (and dropped out just before graduating to take a role in TV production Lipstick on Your Collar in 1993. With the focus on the independent and interesting, the next years saw Ewan in diverse roles, including Shallow Grave, before he got his first big hit with Trainspotting. More great characterisations followed (too many of them in romance stuff) before Ewan got that offer that tempted him into the big mainstream. How does one resist playing the younger Obi Wan Kenobi in a Star Wars trilogy and emulating the great Sir Alec? And yet, between the Star Wars films, Ewan still managed to fit in a surprising number of films, notably the totally different Moulin Rouge with Nicole Kidman and then Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down. SW2 and more diverse films including the magical Big Fish. Already in films slated for filming two years hence, Ewan is very much in demand. Watch out for animated movie Robots in which Ewan voices the character of Rodney Copperbottom.
