Colin Firth was a well respected actor with a long career already when his role as Mr Darcy in a TV adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice established him as a major hearththrob. His acting skills have risen above that label so that he has been able to star in many films like The English Patient and serious TV like Conspiracy. But the tall good looks do make him ideal for his starring roles in Bridget Jones's Diary (as the modern Darcy) and Love Actually.
